unfortunate situation

I wanted to reach out and let you know how appreciative we are for your interest in playing music and displaying art at First Fridays in the Courtyard. Unfortunately, starting November 5th we won't be able to provide a live music venue. A new resident of the courtyard has made such a stink about the show that we are now not fully supported by all the residents to have live music in the space. We can however, provide an art gallery.

I want to invite all artists that are interested in displaying their art, whether that be preformance art, projections, installations or any innovative way to show one's appreciation for art and music in the community. I am not convinced this should stop what we have accomplished in the past year and a half. It means to much to a lot of people to stop the momentum that we have generated.

I still invite you to please come out and show your support. Let's cross our fingers that they do not renew their lease and we can continually provide Richmond with live music and art each month.

UPDATES:  Gibson's Grill has stepped up and allowed us to have our live music preformed in their lounge area downstairs. After indulging in First Fridays in Jackson Ward, head downtown to Gibson's Grill at 700 E. Broad Street, next to The National. Music starts at 8:30pm.

"attack of the killer tomatoes"

i realize the ridiculousness of this movie, that's why it would be fun to have it playing on the projector throughout the course of the evening tomorrow night!
my co-worker found it recently and thought i may be interested in having it up during the performances.. why not?
and there will be more surprises to come as well!
i'm psyched to hear that hurricane earl may not show it's face in richmond that day/evening..
but you can never tell. i will be prepared either way..

silly me..

so i thought i'd share this, because i think it's funny and laney got a kick out of it herself.. but i was e-mail everyone that was going to be involved this month for first fridays.. and i wrote lomo marino instead of lobo marino when writing the e-mail.
for some reason i did that with everyone of my notes without noticing it.. but laney e-mails me back that lomo marino means "sea pork" haha.. instead of lobo marino which means "sea lion" haha.. at any rate it was laughable to say the least.. thankfully the posters didn't say "sea pork"... phew!

ps. i'm really psyched for next week!

artistic brillance!

i went with this poster design to hopefully ward off rain for that evening since we've had so much rain come pouring down last time.. but even if the weatherman says otherwise.. we are prepared with our event tent and plenty of plastic bags..

rain rain!!

so, it rained last night but that didn't do much to stop the evening!
around 8pm, Ohbliv got into his set the rain started coming down real good but we thought that it would pass like every other rain cloud that passed through but this one came down! Ohbliv actually hovered over his mixer to shelter it from the rain.. but when that wasn't good enough he tried playing underneath the table..
but the PA wasn't going to be okay sitting out in that stuff so we brought it all in.. at first everyone was certain that was going to kill the evening. but shortly after people kept flowing into the courtyard but we also had an event tent that we probably should have gotten up prior to all this (oops..) but at any rate we popped it up  (in the pouring rain, so we all got soaked - but after probably one of the hottest summer days in richmond.. it was a well deserved shower!) and moorish temple was ready to go!

moorish temple consists of marshe wyche on the bass, dean lee on the lead guitar and josh on the drums.
they were fantastic, everyone was stoked to hear them! it was unbelievable to me that marshe has only just learned the bass a couple of months ago, she killed some bass!

immediately after their set, we brought the tent down so everyone could see dave watkins set the best.. because at this point the rain clouds subsided and you could see a few stars.
we had a dancer that night in a yellow shirt that just jammed out like no ones business, he even kicked the pieces of tent left behind to clean up later, so he could have enough room to dance!
dave's set blew everyone out of the water, as usual! i request that dave bangs on the drum more often!

thank you for everyone sticking it out despite the rain!

the best yet..

“the best yet i think!”

first fridays in the courtyard - july 2nd
jonathan vassar and the speckled bird is always a breathe of fresh air. hezekiah jones was a beautiful addition to the courtyard.. and matt jones was a pleasant surprise, his voice was so “unique and good” — was how most people described him.
dave watkins of course surprised everyone once again with his spontaneous sound! it left the crowd’s mouths dropping and not a person in the courtyard left empty-handed.

it was a beautiful july evening, with no humidity to speak of.
